We have baby chicks in our house! My son's kindergarten class hatched chicken eggs this spring and we were lucky enough to take a couple chicks home, and his kindergarten teacher helped us get a couple more from the hatchery she worked with. They spent their first afternoon in our backyard today, just a few hours and under close supervision. It was fun to watch them forage in the grass and explore the outdoors for a bit. They saw the big chickens and hid under our feet, you can tell they are imprinted on humans!
So far these chicks are named: Slow (because she took a while to hatch from her shell), Smokey (black/gray color), Pecky, and Cutie.
Ahh, when children name animals.
Needless to say, they were worn out and ready for a nap in the brooder after their afternoon in the yard!
